This is Celia C. Tillman, bringing you greetings and encouragement from the Honey-Comb of Praises. Our lesson for today is, THE BREAD OF LIFE. Ladies, as I thought about this topic, my thoughts raced before me. I thought of Satan whose influence has brought chaos and misery in the lives of mankind, from the days old, and even to this present day. Satan is an accuser, a murderer, and a liar, John 8:44. Satan even had the nerve to stand before God and challenge the faithfulness and loyalty of Job. The Bible said that this man was perfect and upright; one that eschewed evil (avoided, shun, to abstain from). He served God faithfully and even offered up prayers for each of his children, Job 1:2-5.
In I Chronicle 21:1-14, Satan stood up against Israel and provoked David to number the people of Israel, of which God was very displeased. However, taking the census was not immoral in itself, (Numbers 1:1-2) of which God permitted, but David in the book of First Chronicle Chapter 21 didn’t rely on divine help and guidance, instead relied on national pride. David wanted to glorify Israel size and military strength, however even Joab, a top general, thought it was a sin do so, I Chronicle 21; verse 6. David realized he was wrong, and said, “Do away with the iniquity of thy servant, for I have done foolishly,” verse 8. God punished David, (Read, verses14-30).
Ladies, Satan controls many of us today, as we would have him to do. The Bible teaches us that, “There is no temptation taken you but such as is common to man, but with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it,” I Corinthians 10:13. We can’t afford to let Satan be lord and master over us, but we must continue to fight the good fight of faith in Christ Jesus. We can’t fight it alone, but we need a “Life Line,” a main source to sustain us. For example, when a child is first conceived, the sperm makes its way to the fallopian tube where the fertilized egg then move to the womb of the mother where it stays there throughout the duration of the mother’s pregnancy for full growth and development. The child is dependent upon the mother for its supply of nutrients in order that it may be strong and healthy, (eating proper foods). However, the mother should be properly educated of how to take care of her body for this is very important for the care of her unborn child.
Jesus is our “Life Line,” and he is the “Living Bread that came down from Heaven. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; he that believe on me shall never thirst,” John 6:35. Ladies, the children of Israel wondered in the wilderness for 40 years because of lack of faith in God. They murmured and complained to Moses about God, even when he had rescued them out of Egyptian bondage, and leading them safely on dry land (Crossing the Red Sea). He even fed
The children of Israel food from heaven until they came to the borders of Canaan, however, some were so disobedient of the instruction of how to preserve the manna. They were not to leave it over night until the next morning, but they did so and it bred worms, Read Exodus, 16:7-35. Ladies, it is just like some of us today, we complain about one thing and the other, and we are never satisfied of what God has done or doing for us.
We must realize that we can’t continue in our sins and expect God to overlook them. We must repent of our sins and walk in the light as he is in the light, however, and one day heaven will be our home. Ladies, all God’s promises are true and he cannot lie, 2 Peter 3:9. Satan is the father of lies, and there is nothing guaranteed that he can promise the children of God but pleasure for a season. But the Lord, however, can promise life eternal if we are faithful. The bread that came down from heaven it is living, and man shall live forever if he eats of it. Jesus said, “Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness and are dead. I am the living bread which came down from heaven, if any man eat of this bread he shall live forever, and the bread I give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world,” John 6:47-49; verse 51.
The reason why some of us find it so difficult to believe in the word of God, which is the “Bread of Life,” is that our minds are burden down with the following: (1) anger, (2) afraid of death, (3) frustration, (4) jealousy, (5) envy, (6) yielding to unlawful sex, (7) inferiority, (8) doubting, (9) discouragement, (10) Doubting faith in God, (11) anxious or impatient, (12) feeling useless, (13) vengefulness, (14) no longer attend worship service on a regular basis, (15) covetousness, (16) lying, (17) gossiping, (18) sowing discord, (bearing false witness) and many other I could name.
Ladies, the lack of faith in God, is the sum total of all our problems, and whatever comes after that is a product of it. However, some of us have let our faith go down to zero, and we need a quick fix, of which is Jesus Christ.
